Costco says it’s got some new and improved diapers. Let’s talk about these new diapers and a couple other baby products.
Our first baby was born nearly 14 years ago, and our second one is a year old. Yes, quite the age gap. It’s been really fun and quite a bit different than the first time around. I am sure many second time moms say that even without the age gap. However, being 13 years older than I was when our first baby came along, a lot has changed. Including but not limited to my knowledge of toxins, endocrine disruptors and poison in our food. That has played a role in the products I chose for our family, and specific to this post, our baby. I think Costco Kirkland Signature diapers are a good choice for a health-conscious family who is also budget conscious.
I did not really know or care about toxins when our first son was a baby. Ah, the good ole days. Just kidding…kind of. Ignorance was bliss in some ways, but I hope the care of our bodies in avoiding unnecessary toxins helps us steward our bodies over the long road of life. So, when our second baby was born about a year ago, I set out to find a non-toxic diaper. The first ones we tried, Millie Moon brand, did not work; they leaked like crazy even when we sized up. The second version we tried, EveryLife, is the most heavily marketed as the most non-toxic out of what we tried, but also the most expensive. We also tried Hello Bello but tracking them down was proving difficult as they aren’t sold in many stores around us. So, I tried a couple more brands and landed on Kirkland diapers.
Side-note: I do absolutely love EveryLife’s pro-life stance. It’s part of why I looked into them but financially, for now, it made more sense to just buy cheaper diapers and donate directly toward the causes we support. But I do love their work!
Are Kirkland Signature Diapers the most non-toxic? Maybe, maybe not. They don’t contain elemental chlorine, but they also don’t say TCF (totally chlorine free). I am not a chemist, perhaps that splitting hairs but according to Google, there is a distinction. The Costco Website says “Our diapers are hypoallergenic and made without fragrance, parabens, phthalates, lotions, elemental chorine, and natural rubber latex.” The ingredients list is somewhat vague, which is annoying, I admit. However, when I compared it to a brand that really touts itself as a nontoxic diaper, they were quite similar in my opinion. Even EveryLife uses non-elemental chlorine. As I was researching, various versions of chlorine were among the most talked about ingredients. Both said they don’t contain elemental chlorine, but technically that means they can still have chlorine dioxide. Wanting to be clear here, I am not criticizing either brand just pointing out that they used the same or very similar language across the ingredients list. If I was a chemist, I might pick up on differences, but I am not so to me the ingredients lists were very similar, but the prices were drastically different.
Why am I rambling about toxins? Because, Momma, you are going to have to choose what you are and are not comfortable with. For us, it did not make sense to spend literally double the money on what appeared to be marginally less toxins. I’m not throwing shade on any other brands. I’m just saying financial stress is toxic as well. And if you’ve got babies and kids, you know that things add up fast!
Reasons Kirkland Signature Diapers are the Best Diapers for Us
1) They do not leak. My lil dude is a thick guy ok. He is not a bitty baby. Finding a diaper that fit him was half the battle because so many would leak even if I would size up. Kirkland diapers don’t leak for us. If you try them and you find that they do leak, try sizing up. Costco is known for a very generous return policy, I am pretty sure you can return/ exchange open boxes.
2) They have not caused any skin irritation.
Costco’s website claims the Signature Diapers are dermatologist tested and safe for sensitive skin.
3) They don’t smell so bad. I will elaborate here. There are some diapers that just smell bad. It’s like once the urine hits them, the pee-smell is amplified. I don’t know if it’s a chemical reaction in some brands or what, but it is true. Kirkland diapers do not do that. They are not scented, but they seem to not add to the smell of a dirty diaper either. If you’re reading this thinking, “I have never experienced this”, I am happy for you, but I’m convinced it’s a thing.
4) Cost Effective- At about 30 cents per diaper, they are priced somewhere between Walmart’s Parent’s Choice brand ($.17/ diaper) and EveryLife ($.60/diaper). (I calculated size 6 in all brands as they tend to be more expensive.)
As a note: You could keep climbing the crunchy ladder and pay for even more natural or clean diapers. You could also choose to cloth diaper. I am just sharing the comparisons of what I have tried.

When our baby was born, I was intended to be ultra fiscally responsible and make my own baby wipes, but I actually could not beat the Costco Price. So, there ya have it. My thoughts on Kirkland Signature Diapers and wipes!
I technically can’t answer their claim “New and Improved” since I did not use them before, but I’ve been very happy. I think they are a great value, and overall, I’ve been very happy with our purchases.
